Thirty years ago when he''s father started the business, he specialized in screenprinting and hand painting. The elder he is still involved in the business. We''re great complements to each other, says the younger he. He has his forte in production and customer relations and installations. My specialty is more behind the scenes, keeping the operation going, planning future growth, and deciding what technologies to adopt. The younger he was the impetus for bringing digital on board. In comparison to screenprinting, he says the advantages of digital are turnaround time, size, cost and resolution. With screenprinting you''re limited to the size of your press, which is usually no larger than 5 feet x 12 feet, and that''s considered a very large screenprinting press. In digital, you can print a banner 16 feet wide x 150 feet long on one piece of material. The only disadvantage of digital versus screenprinting is long runs. Digital is slow. For long runs, it''s not cost effective, he says. There aren''t many (disadvantages), that''s probably one of the only ones. It''s just a great technology.
