A keen sense of customer needs helped AAA Flag and Banner grow from a one-man operation into a thriving chain of outdoor-graphic outlets with more than 200 employees. And when wide-format digital printers first emerged to support outdoor applications like the ones AAA Flag produced, the company immediately saw potential benefits for its customers in the new machines. After careful study of the available equipment, AAA Flag became one of the earliest screen shops to adopt digital-printing technology, first launching itself into digital production with electrostatic printer Graphic electrostatic printers, and soon after, superwide solvent-based inkjets. He says that with the advent of wide format, photo houses seem to be stepping into the arena, but he doesn''t feel threatened. Since it was established, AAA Flag has focused on outdoor signs, flags, and banners, many involving high-resolution process-color graphics. To support these applications, the company built up a collection of services ranging from applique and hand-painting to digital vinyl cutting and screen printing. Today, AAA Flag supports its ten locations (eight in the area, one in, and one in) with more than a dozen Sias large-format (60 x 144 in.) semiautomatic presses, several UV and conventional dryers, eight digital cutting plotters of various makes, and now, a large collection of wide-format digital printers. Digital-imaging technology first caught AAA Flag''s attention in the mid ''90s, when wide-format outdoor-durable digital first graphics became a reality. "We saw the advent of the technology as tremendous because it meant we no longer needed to produce film for four-color-process printing on short runs, which was very cost prohibitive," explains AAA Flag''s executive vice president.
